Peggy Jackson Walls grew up about three miles from the famous Hog Mountain gold mine. In the 1980s, she began collecting information about the Tallapoosa County gold mines and other counties in the the Alabama gold belt. She is a retired teacher and online instructor who enjoys interviewing people and writing about Alabama's gold mining history and southern history topics. She has written human interest stories and poetry, published in different mediums. The book Alabama Gold, a history of the South's last mother lode covers a century of gold mining in Alabama.
